Distinguished guests, members of the Board, President Cheng, Vice Presidents, faculty colleagues, and dear students, welcome.
It is a great pleasure to gather with all of you to celebrate the anniversary of Chaoyang University of Technology. Over the past 32 years, our university has grown and flourished. Together, we have witnessed remarkable achievements in teaching, research, and industry collaboration. These accomplishments would not have been possible without the dedication of our faculty and staff, the hard work of our students, and the continued support of our alumni and community partners.
Yet in a world that is changing faster than ever, success today does not guarantee success tomorrow. Technology is evolving rapidly, and the challenges we face continue to shift. That is why we must keep moving forward with the mindset of a runner, never content to stand still and always striving to improve. By continuing to innovate and push our limits, we can build on our strengths and achieve even greater success in the years ahead.
Today, I would like to share two brief reflections with you.
First, education remains irreplaceable, and its true purpose lies in character. In the age of artificial intelligence, it has become easier than ever to find answers online. Many people now turn to AI when they have questions about their studies or daily lives. However, information on the internet is not always accurate, and technology cannot determine what is right or wrong. It can provide information, but it cannot replace human judgment or moral guidance. This is why education remains so important.
The role of education is not simply to transfer knowledge. It is about guiding students, nurturing their potential, and building meaningful human connections. Above all, education should nurture character—guiding students to become respectful and responsible individuals who live with integrity and compassion. These are qualities that no technology can ever replace.
Second, we can learn from the “Hedgehog Principle.” There is a well-known story about the fox and the hedgehog. The fox is clever and tries many different strategies, but its efforts are scattered. The hedgehog, on the other hand, focuses on one simple strength: protecting itself. In the end, it succeeds. This story reminds us that success often comes from focusing on what we do best.
In today’s world, there is much discussion about interdisciplinary learning, cross-sector collaboration, and pursuing multiple roles. While these ideas certainly have their value, we must also remember the importance of developing deep expertise in our core strengths. For Chaoyang, this means focusing on our mission and what we do best. By remaining committed to our strategic vision, strengthening our distinctive programs, and deepening our expertise, we can build a reputation that is uniquely ours.
As we celebrate this special occasion, I invite you to share in the joy of this moment and the spirit of the Chaoyang family. I wish you all good health, happiness, and success. Thank you.
